Dr. Nicole de Freitas decided at 16 years of age she wanted to pursue a career in Physical Therapy. She attended Florida International University where she received her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology (cum laude) in April 2000. She continued her education at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in Florida where she received a Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy with a focus on manual therapy in December 2002.
On her return home, Nicole contracted her services to St. Clair Medical Centre and Westshore Medical Centre, providing inpatient care. She also contracted services to an outpatient clinic. In May 2007 she, along with one other initial investor, opened Total Rehab and subsequently terminated her contracts to other medical facilities to focus on the clinic.
Nicole became a Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist from The Back School of Atlanta in 2010 and has been certified in THUET (Tropical Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) which allows her to provide on-site ergonomic services to offshore workers.
Starting in 2011, Nicole also completed Kinesio Taping Courses 1-4 and is one of the most experienced local practitioners of the Kinesio taping method. Nicole, through Total Rehab, has also facilitated the training and certification of most local Kinesio Taping Practitioners as well as the wider Caribbean.
In October 2014, Nicole completed the NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist Certification. She strives to continue her professional development through continuing education courses and involvement with initiatives such as Agility Sports. Her most recent achievement is being elected to the Physical Therapy Board of Trinidad and Tobago in 2015.
